What Hispanic Heritage Month Means to Ricardo Lamas

Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the influence and contributions of Hispanic and Latin American communities to the history, culture, and achievements for the United States. This celebration occurs annually from September 15th to October 15th.
During this year’s Hispanic Heritage Month, Ricardo Lamas takes a moment to reflect on what Hispanic Heritage Month means to him.
UFC GYM: What does Hispanic Heritage Month mean to you?
RL: To me, it is a month of recognition for the Latino culture, but I celebrate being Latino every day.
UFC GYM: How do you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
RL: Hispanic Heritage Month coincidentally falls on the same month as Mexican Independence Day. As a child, my parents would take me to the Mexican Independence Day parade. On some occasions, my family and I participated in the parade by riding on some of the floats. It’s important to keep my Latino roots strong and pass them down to my children.
UFC GYM: What led you to becoming a gym owner?
RL: Athletics have always been a huge part of my life. I have been competing at a high level since I was 14 years old. I earned my bachelor's degree in exercise science, and every job that I have ever held has been related to the fitness industry; from personally training folks to climbing the ranks and fighting for the World Championship in the UFC.
